Terms of use
NederlandsLast updated: 9 October 2026
These terms apply to the Chrono app and joinchrono.com, run by Simon de Wit in the Netherlands ("we"). By creating an account you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
1. Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old.
- Use your own details. Don't pretend to be someone else, and don't sell or hand over your account.
- Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens with your account.
2. Your content
What you post stays yours. To run Chrono, you give us a non-exclusive, free, worldwide licence to store, copy and process your content (for example to make smaller versions of photos and to process videos) and to show it to the people allowed to see it under your settings. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from the time it takes to clear our backups.
Only post what you have the rights to, and respect the people in your photos and videos. Tag people only if they are really in the photo or video.
3. What is not allowed
We don't tolerate objectionable content or abusive users. You may not post, send or do anything that:
- is illegal, or helps others do something illegal;
- sexually exploits or endangers children, or sexualises minors in any way (see our child safety standards);
- contains nudity or sexual content;
- harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates someone, or shares someone's private information without their consent;
- attacks people because of who they are, such as their origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability;
- glorifies or incites violence or terrorism, or encourages self-harm or suicide;
- is spam or a scam, comes from a fake account, or impersonates a person or organisation;
- shares intimate images of someone without their consent;
- infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights;
- tries to break into Chrono, get around blocks or limits, collect data from Chrono automatically, or spread malware.
4. Reporting, blocking and moderation
You can report posts, comments, messages and profiles in the app, and block anyone. A blocked person can no longer see your profile or posts, or message you privately. We review reports within a week. Content that breaks these terms is removed. For serious or repeated breaches we delete the account. The person who posted the content and the person who reported it receive our decision and the reason by email, and can respond if they disagree.
Anyone, also without an account, can report illegal content via our contact form (topic "Safety or illegal content"). Include where the content is and why you think it is illegal.
When we remove your content or restrict your account, we tell you why by email, unless the law doesn't allow it or it concerns spam. If you disagree, you can object; someone will review the decision again. You can also go to court or to a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body.
5. Chrono itself
Chrono is free. We work hard to keep it running smoothly, but we provide it as it is: features can change or disappear, and the app may sometimes be unavailable. Keep your own copy of photos and videos that matter to you.
To keep Chrono free, we may show ads and sponsored content in the app, for example between posts in your feed. They are always clearly marked as such. Before we start, we'll update our privacy policy and tell you in the app. Ads based on your personal data need your separate permission, which you can refuse or withdraw at any time.
6. Ending
You can delete your account at any time; see Delete your account. We can delete an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or when the law requires it.
7. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect damage or for the loss of content. This doesn't limit our liability for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, nor any rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.
8. App stores
If you downloaded Chrono from the App Store or Google Play, their terms also apply. These terms are between you and us, not between you and Apple or Google; they are not responsible for Chrono or its content and have no obligation to provide support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
9. Changes
We may change these terms. We announce important changes in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Chrono after that, the new terms apply.
10. Law and disputes
Dutch law applies to these terms. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of that country and can also go to court there.
11. Contact
For questions about these terms, and as our point of contact for users and authorities under the Digital Services Act, use our contact form. You can write to us in Dutch or English.
